As a woman who grew up in the early 2000’s, my paintings are a social comment on popular culture. I have always appreciated R&B and Hip-Hop, a genre of music to which I have always felt connected. My practice combines my love of Rap with a fascination for hyper real portraiture. This series of paintings portrays five widely known R&B and Hip-Hop artists from around the globe.

I am interested in the social history of Rap music, a genre that has evolved from early associations with gangs, drugs and violence, to become an art form that is now associated with incredible lyricists and choreography. R&B and Hip-Hop musicians have raised awareness of racial and political issues and become role models for youths needing to persevere and stand up for themselves and their beliefs. This is now the biggest music genre in the USA. Through this series of paintings, I hope to draw attention to how important these artists are to our current society..
