Welcome Home explores the roles of women within domestic space and representations of the body. Through constructed scenes created out of cardboard, the fake and highly fabricated nature of identity and societal expectations placed upon women is explored. The series encompasses an uncanny aesthetic, drawing inspiration from portrayals of women in media and popular culture. To create this work, I drew upon the many contexts in which we commonly see women, such as through the male gaze or as a homemaker. How we depict, see and govern women's bodies is also deconstructed through the scenes. In this series, I built these scenes as a means to dismantle the previously established expectations of women, questioning the traditional roles and ideals often associated with domesticity and the body. The character within the images remains anonymous, allowing the viewer to project any identity onto the figure, further exploring the way we perceive and depict female identities and their bodies in art.
