Brooke
Going back and forth between wanting to be abundantly simple and endlessly complex, my works consider ideas of love, lust and loss. My practice engages in the art of collection and alteration through a lens of absence. I use photography so each work is viewed as a memory, aiming to crystallise the universal but rarely captured experience of an imperfect relationship and the intensely consuming emotions that come with it. Exploring feelings of desire for true love, a fear of commitment and the paradox of wanting intimacy but craving isolation, I indulge my seemingly impulsive emotions. Layering text or line(s) upon a photograph renders my inner thoughts and views on the outside world visible. I seek to emphasise or alter what lies within an image, exploring the relationships that exist between internalised feeling, sight and experience.
