Due to my cross-cultural background, during my MFA studies program I was interested in the Asian gay anime subculture. As a beneficiary of this subculture, my work focuses on claiming feminist-queer rights for its’ female fans through interdisciplinary expression, including performative video, painting and abstraction. Based on the gender and sexual politics of the 21st century and my queer identity, I use a queering methodology to respond to a series of artistic genres, such as abstraction, minimalism, formalism and performance art. Queering has provided an extremely significant perspective in my projects throughout these two years. Combining queering methodology's application, and creating dynamic visual languages to transmit vitality to the audience, is an effective strategy to advertise a neologism – which I term 'fujoshilism'. Fujoshilism is a belief in reasonably enjoying and consuming anime products that satisfy female requirements for intimate relationships and love, and constructs a high-quality and independent mental life for 'new women' that challenges patriarchy and advocates for a feminist-queer concept.
