Grace Evangeline Stuart
My works explore themes of home, heritage and the natural world, often through mixed media sculptural installations, with an utmost regard for environmental impacts. They include innovative interactive prints, textile experimentation and explorations of organic material agency. I use material agency in a way that creates transient art forms and ephemeral elemental arrangements left to chance. These works engage with my research in post-colonialism, belonging and identity through an Australian lens; with careful consideration of Indigenous allyship and sovereignty. Ultimately, my work creates a vision of a hopeful future through acts of decolonisation.
My works intersect in practice. I have a career background in illustration, and formal training in printmaking through a Bachelor degree, but my practice often strays into textile, sculpture and the living world. This adaptability is one of my biggest strengths as an artist, creating unique forms which often end up as durational works due to their ‘living’ nature.
