My work explores the fear of place, of the environment we’re immersed in. Looking at unoccupied space, be that under shadowed trees or gloomy spaces, has the capacity to be frightening through what could be there. Having your back exposed does not mean that there is someone there, but the possibility is not non-existent.
This project investigates the way in which a sense of atmosphere can be shared through restricted video and sound environments. The intent of this process is to convey a feeling of unease through fragmented and specifically short-form, momentary artworks.
Exploring the uncanny feelings of atmosphere embodied by figure, this project attempts to dissect the dimensions of existence through video experiences. There is an emphasis on the three planes of the world that can be explored through artworks; there is the physical audience observing the piece, who witness the second plane, the almost tangible figure that somewhat exists. This figure is filming and experiencing the space of the video. The third plane is the space or landscape itself as this ever-expanding, timeless scene.
