Photography and painting are critically interconnected in my practice. Through both these mediums, my work explores the space where figuration and abstraction intersect. While my painting approach is at times more gestural and at others more restrained, listening to the formal elements of photographic imagery, such as line and shape, guides the compositional framework of my paintings.

Currently my practice explores how analogue photographic processes such as creating multiple exposures can be reimagined through painting. By presenting multiple images organised within a single frame, the double exposure offers more than one narrative, place or moment. Through the painting process, my work aims to celebrate this often unintentional camera process and how it challenges the inherent ‘truth’ of the photograph. This body of work investigates the interaction of different landscape images playing on their symbiosis, such as the meeting of horizon lines; while conversely, drawing on how this juxtaposition works to disrupt a ‘complete’ sense of place.
