Thresholds

How can we seek to reinvigorate an understanding of the curious and ordinary moments we dwell in? What in our lived experience can we hold onto when we find ourselves in a state of flux? It is at the margins, looking into the spaces where nothing of significance appears to be, where transformations in thought often arise; in the reflection of personal attitudes, positions, and relations. It is within the active liminal space where anything can occur. Subtle variations, a spatial shift, an emptiness full of possibilities. What if we didn’t associate boundaries with lines, and we thought about space instead?

Painting is the medium with which I explore these intermediate spatial and temporal thresholds. It is for me a medium of thought and action — a container that traverses the interior and exterior. Through painting, the transitory moments of contemporary life and the transformative rituals we enact to negotiate flux are given substance and shared.
