Something’s not quite right. Food is running low and I cannot get everything I want, but what I do find isn't quite right. My parents would always say “stop playing with your food and just eat it”, yet here I am playing with my food for art. Being told not to do something doesn’t mean there is no fun to be had; aren’t chefs playing with food when they present a decadently arranged plate? My imagination wanders with this project. I have let it venture into the darkness to play with and sculpt spontaneous food-related forms that are suspended in a void and disrupted by shards of lights. The brain does a decent job at determining whether something is safe to eat. But sometimes the brain makes meaningful connections between unrelated things. This is called ‘apophenia’ (ap-o-phe-nia), and is demonstrated by such things as seeing figures in the clouds. I invite you to let your mind wander; something is off but I can’t quite pin it down.
