Stitch is dedicated to my good friend Margot. She, in her early 80s, has taught and guided me through the many crafts and needlework we both are passionate about. We started as neighbours, being in close proximity, and became great friends over the time we shared together. By weaving together two of my main interests – Polaroid photographs and embroidery – I communicate the link between Margot and myself. I do not feel the 60 years distance between us but the closeness and comfort creating brings to us both. I feel that this creating is a way to silence the worries and anxieties we both feel, and is greatly effective in bringing comfort to our cores. The embroidery is my way of showing a labour of love that is delicate and wonderful. I have embedded within the images stitches that highlight a display of Margot’s life to show an appreciation of her life and our friendship.
