Associate Dean, Photography video transcript
Welcome and thanks so much for joining us. Photography education at RMIT is as old as the institution itself, being offered as one of the first courses in 1887, the year the then Working Men’s College first opened. Five students started back then; three men and two women.
These earliest graduates became central to the developing photographic narrative of Melbourne and Australia, and over time it has shifted into a discipline that is globally connected through our students arriving from all over the world and learning all over the world, and our graduates working all over the world.
This year we are graduating 70 students from three programs, ranging from our undergraduate and honours degrees through to Australia’s only university Master of Photography degree program.
So what will you see from our graduating students? Well, they are making work that is insightful, challenging and innovative. At RMIT we prioritise the development of contemporary skills and critical engagement in photography, supporting our students to be thinking photographers and practitioners working in an ever changing global industry.
I hope you enjoy seeing our graduate’s works, and on behalf of our amazing team of academic and professional staff, I’d like to congratulate our students, and thank them for their dedication and hard work; they make us proud and continue a long tradition of excellence from RMIT Photography graduates.
