Bachelor of Arts (Photography) (Honours) video transcript

Hello. My name is Ray Cook. I am the program manager for Bachelor of Art (Photography) (Honours), and I’d like to celebrate the effort and achievements of our 2020 cohort.

It was clearly a very difficult year, most of which was spent under restrictions in lockdown, which meant that we had limitations on who could shoot, where we could shoot and essentially what we could shoot. However, our honours cohort took this all in their stride, responding with considerable ingenuity, turning negatives into creative positives.

One of the things that I found particularly challenging this year was the restrictions we had in terms of the social aspects of learning and the sorts of things that you gain from getting together little groups of creative communities that are all focused on a similar sort of activity. Somehow we managed to use Zoom to compensate as best we could, and I came to look forward very much to Wednesday afternoon sessions which in some ways became the principal of my social life.

I’d also like to speak of the other staff that worked in honours and voice their congratulations as well: Kelly Hussey Smith, Alan Hill, Alison Bennett and Nikos Pantazopoulos all contributed in some way or another to the honours year in Photography.

On this occasion of the Graduate Exhibition, I’d like to offer my sincere congratulations and my very best wishes for the future to all our 2020 honours graduates. I hope that you’ll keep in touch. So please, don’t be strangers.
