Emily Williams
My artwork explores nature and wildlife through a range of mediums and processes, from beautifully saturated paintings and softly detailed renderings to bold hand-printed imagery and artist books, all intertwined through lyrical and fantastical storybook qualities. I feel a strong sense of freedom and peace within the natural world, the same way I do within the creative process. My work is a mixture of direct reflections and imaginative responses to the world surrounding me. With these representations, I hope to encourage and inspire the viewer to see the beauty of nature and all of its intricate details that they may not have noticed before.
My project, Let’s Survive Together, explores how art can help support the conservation of our native flora and fauna in Victoria. This artist book features hand drawn illustrations of our native wildlife affected by habitat los, as a result of human interference. The tree acts as the anchor for this piece, symbolising the many trees that have been cut down during deforestation activities and residential subdivision within Victoria; the native wildlife is seeking the safety and shelter of the tree that can no longer provide for them.
Through this project I hope to inspire and encourage a stronger empathy from the viewer by creating greater awareness and promoting discussion around our current conservation efforts and how society can do more to help on a local level.
