In a collection of environmental self-portraits, I reflect on my experience of being confined to my Melbourne apartment amidst the seemingly endless COVID-19 lockdown.

This project depicts an abstract view of isolation with a satirical undertone combining humour with melancholia, mourning our loss of freedom while humouring the ridiculous lengths to which we go to pass time. The ludicrous nature of the images provides insight into my state of mind throughout long days of boredom, depression and desperation coupled with graphic elements depicting the length and severity of the conditions that controlled our days.

Often we perceive limitations as restricting our freedom of creativity, however I believe it requires more freedom of thought and experimentation to produce art in these times. In this depiction of life within the world’s strictest lockdown, I acknowledge the challenge faced by Victorians every day and the strength of community it takes to isolate for a greater good.
