Chicken, table, socks, grass, butterfly, keys. These are some of the first words that a human learns.

Inspired by the book First 100 Words, I sourced the most basic ideas from my photographic archive. From these, I created manipulated images that urge viewers to re-examine overlooked, everyday objects.

Utilising photoshop techniques that include digital layering, repetition, inversion and drawing, I altered the baseline imagery, changing the perception of the simple items and drawing attention to new details. The aim of the series, Trace of Thoughts, is to allow the viewer to experience everyday subjects with a different perspective through the images and to question what they are seeing.

There isn’t a specific way to look at these photographs. However, through an individual’s mental exploration and mindset the artwork images develop, redefine and reform to fit the viewer’s perspective, therefore making the photographic project a collaboration between the individual and the photographer through layering different views and creating new traces of thought.
