I'm seeking to cultivate a state of mind without intention; detaching from a process of planning paintings to work intuitively. Whilst walking I create a series of field recordings which in turn allow my footsteps to mimic a metronome. I then use these to dictate the rhythm and pace of my mark making. These translations come through as colours, shapes and patterns that together form a residue of a previous experience. Forever interested in exploring the materiality of paint, I seek out texture through applying many layers and reworking selected areas to create both compositional and surface tension. A hierarchy of tone and colour can be found in my works as I seek a balance between the gesture of mark making and the illusion of space.
