In the first half of 2020, I was in Paris for exchange study. I still remember the faint light that came through the window at night when I was lying in bed. It kept me awake, until the drowsiness came over me. That light allowed me to feel close to home, despite being trapped during the pandemic. I doubt the veracity of this sense of familiarity being generated in a strange city, as I generally think of home as the place where I belong, which is where I am from.

After returning to my home city of Hong Kong, I can’t help thinking of the faint light as well as the feeling of familiarity it brought to me in Paris. It has me wondering whether home is just the physical place I have lived in for so long. Thus I keep searching, collecting photographs of scenes that are as appealing as the faint light in my mind. And as they lie together, a map to a home is revealed for me.
