In light of the current global climate – namely, during the pandemic, which faces each of us indiscriminately – I have felt the need to proceed with a body of work that explores new and constructive understandings of community and the individual’s need to connect.

In my work the line functions as both a formal aesthetic device and a metaphor for society’s interrelationships and modes of communication. I have interrogated certain concepts – such as masking, cocooning, protecting and linking – which I feel reflect the way that human connection has been impacted by social distancing and the COVID-19 pandemic.

This series of work is practice-led in the most literal sense: various forms that consist solely of lines, and which have been created through an intuitive making process. This process has enabled me to consider not only my own personal history and challenges regarding emotional connection, but the way we all must ultimately expose ourselves to create meaningful relationships.
