Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) Painting video transcript

Welcome.

I am Associate Professor Peter Ellis, Painting’s studio leader.

The Bachelor of Art, School of Art Graduate Exhibition marks the culmination of three intense years of studio practice.

This year has been one of challenges, resilience and triumph.

Our students produced sustained, unique work in sometimes unknown conditions while retaining a strong sense of community and dedication to their art.

Artists are lateral thinkers capable of adapting and producing work wherever they are, with whatever materials they have, leading the viewer to new worlds of expression.

The Painting students in this online exhibition have triumphed in producing work in kitchens and bedroom studios as they have engaged with online tutorials, lectures and exhibitions.

Artists are chroniclers of their time; the work by these talented graduates reflects the conditions and challenges of 2020.

This exhibition highlights the diversity of the expanded field of painting. Each student has produced work building upon their established strengths, continually experimenting and adapting to new concepts and material practices.

This exhibition shows us the way to new possibilities, reaffirming that art can help us transcend, heal and enrich our lives and celebrate what it means to be human.

I wish to thank all the Painting staff who have taught these students over the past three years, and especially I wish to thank the year three staff in the Painting teaching team: coordinator Sarah Tomasetti; lecturers Chris Bond, Sofi Basseghi, Christian Capurro and Steven Rendall; and the support from our technical staff Andre Liew and Raphael Buttonshaw.

Please enjoy the exhibition and join me in congratulating these talented artists.
