Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) Print video transcript

Hi there. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Richard Harding and I'm the studio leader for Print at the RMIT University School of Art.

I would like to begin by acknowledging that I'm coming to you from Wurundjeri Country, and I respectfully acknowledge elders, past, present and emerging. I'm just up from the Maribyrnong River in Footscray.

So, what a year! COVID-19 has rocked our world, but not in a good way. Pia (Johnson) and I, as your academic team, would like to congratulate you on your amazing resilience and adaptability over the time that we've had together for this semester, and for the year; considering that we were only on campus for four weeks – three weeks in first semester and one week in second semester – you've done an amazing job. And I can safely say that all the staff in Print and around the school are incredibly impressed by all our graduates.

But my job here today is to congratulate the Print graduates! Part of the operation that happens, and the team effort that goes into getting you all to this point, comes from staff from around the school as well, so I'd like to thank them on your behalf and on the Print studio’s behalf; the History, Theory and Culture staff; the professional staff from other studio areas; and of course the sessional staff from Print as well.

I've got a list here of people that I’d just like to name special thanks to. I'm going to start with the Print professional staff Rob Dott and Kyoko Imazu, who do an amazing job and go above and beyond, constantly, not just for the graduating group but for the whole studio. And our ongoing academic staff Andrew Gunnell and Jazmina Cininas, who have been part of the team that have gotten our graduates to this point. Not to mention, or as well as, the amazing special staff that Print has and we're very fortunate to get them to come back time and again, are the sessional staff – from my list – who are Deborah Williams, Heather Hesterman, Andrew Clapham, Annalise Bosnjak, Greg Harrison and Louise Jennison.

Thank you especially for all your input over this difficult time, and all the staff and all the students within Print; we've gone above and beyond.

So to our 2020 graduates, congratulations as you go out into the world; you are now part of the official Print community.

Thanks.
