Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) Ceramics video transcript

Hello. My name is Kris Coad. I am the studio leader for Ceramics in the Bachelor of Arts course. I am on Wurundjeri country and respectfully acknowledge their ancestors and elders past, present and emerging.

Welcome to the 2020 Graduate Exhibition, which is the culmination of these students’ three years of study. This has been an incredibly challenging time for all of us, and in particular the students. But these graduates have responded with such resilience; they have had no access to the ceramic studios and workshops, which means no access to kilns for the firing and finishing of their artworks.

But they have all adapted and continued to create outstanding work within their homes. It's always such a privilege to have been a part of each student's journey through their studies and seeing their practices emerge; to see how each one of them responds and develops their own innovative ways of thinking about and working with clay. And the results speak for themselves.

Today I'd like to take this time to thank the Ceramics staff who have taught these graduates over the past three years. In particular, Robyn Phelan, Jennifer Conroy-Smith. David Ray, Te’ Claire, Fiona Murphy, Penny Byrne and Garry Bish. And I'd like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to our wonderful technician, Ingrid Maklary.

So, congratulations to our graduates – you are at the beginning of your artistic careers, and we wish you all great success.

Please enjoy the exhibition.

Thank you.
